It’s an exciting time for spring sports as the girls tennis team celebrated their 7th consecutive sectional title. Sophomore Tristan Witter also earned a spot in regionals last week as the 1600m champion. Meanwhile, the softball and baseball teams are preparing to kick off their tournament runs, hoping to add more postseason success to the season. Keep reading to learn more about each team this week: Girls Tennis | Regional #7 | Tuesday, May 27 @ 4:30PM | North Central High School The girls tennis team cruised through sectional play without dropping a match, earning 5-0 victories over Ben Davis, Speedway, and Tri-West to successfully defend their title. They now move on to regional competition at North Central High School on Tuesday, where they’ll face the Cathedral Fighting Irish. The Warriors fell 4-1 to Cathedral earlier this season, but No. 1 singles player Emma Crane notched a win over Cathedral’s top player during the City Tournament—an encouraging sign heading into the rematch. Bishop Chatard and Warren Central will face off in the other semifinal. The regional championship match is set for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase online for $7.00 at https://www.ihsaa.org/sports/girls/tennis/team/2024-25-tournament?round=regionals. Softball | Sectional #42 | Tuesday, May 27 @ 5:30PM | Monrovia High School The Covenant Christian softball team (15-12, 5-2 in conference) begins its quest for a sectional title tomorrow (Tuesday) when it faces Monrovia on the Bulldogs’ home field. The winner will advance to play either Park Tudor or Cardinal Ritter on Thursday at 6 p.m. Despite closing out the regular season with two narrow losses, the Warriors have battled through a tough schedule that has prepared them for a strong postseason run. They defeated Monrovia 9-5 earlier this season and also shut out Cardinal Ritter in a dominant 15-0 victory. Offensively, the team is led by a powerful lineup featuring sophomores Braylin Boruff and Emmryson Nottingham, along with senior Ariannah Jones—all hitting above .433 on the season. In the circle, the Warriors boast strong depth, anchored by Jones, an Anderson University commit, who leads the staff with a 2.36 ERA. Tickets are $7.00 via Eventlink or with cash/credit at the gate. He clocked a time of 4:33.51, earning a spot at Regional #5 this Thursday at Plainfield High School. Witter enters regionals ranked 9th on the performance list, but sits just 3.83 seconds behind the third-place runner—well within striking distance of a state berth. His progress over the past few meets has been impressive. After slashing 10 seconds off his time at the Conference meet with a 4:37.79, he continued to drop time to 4:36.82, and now 4:33.51. To qualify for the State Finals, Witter will need a top-3 finish in Thursday’s race. Come out and support him as he chases a spot at State! Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://public.eventlink.com/tickets?t=129774. Baseball | Sectional #42 | Saturday, May 31 @ 11:30AM | Park Tudor High School Covenant’s baseball team will close out the regular season tomorrow (Tuesday) with a Senior Night matchup against the Indianapolis Kings. With postseason play on the horizon, the Warriors will shift their focus to Sectional #42, which begins Wednesday at Park Tudor. Thanks to a first-round bye, Covenant won't take the field until Saturday, when they begin their title defense against host Park Tudor at 11:30 a.m. The Warriors will look to bounce back from a tough 1-11 regular-season loss to the Panthers, confident in their pitching depth and offensive potential. Senior Nolan Guzman and junior Eli Kegeris are expected to see time on the mound, while juniors Blake Cope and Henry Boyce will look to spark the offense. Both are having standout seasons at the plate, batting .468 and .423, respectively, and have each swiped 32 bases. Elsewhere in the bracket, Monrovia and University will kick off the tournament on Wednesday, with the winner facing Cardinal Ritter on Saturday. The sectional championship is scheduled for Monday, June 2 at 6pm. Come out and support your Warriors as they chase a sectional three-peat!
