Girls tennis and track & field won't travel far this week as they begin their IHSAA tournaments at Ben Davis High School. Here is information for each team: Girls Track & Field | May 20 The Warriors will compete in Sectional #19 tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:45 p.m. The meet includes teams from Ben Davis, Christel House, Cardinal Ritter, Crispus Attucks, Decatur Central, George Washington, Herron, Pike, Providence Cristo Rey, Riverside, Southport, and Speedway. The 4x800m relay team—Grace Huckaba (So.), Anna Strege (Sr.), Raelyn Carter (Fr.), and Eliana Shultz (Fr.)—enters the meet with the fifth-fastest seed time of 11:02.59. Carter is also seeded 10th in the 1600m run with a time of 6:17.82. Huckaba (2:38.22) and Strege (2:40.23) will compete in the 800m run as they look to qualify for Regionals. The meet will conclude with the 4x400m relay, where Huckaba and Strege will be joined by Glory Sief El Nasr (Jr.) and Maddy Howard (Sr.). Tickets can be purchased for $7.00 online at or at the gate using credit or tap-to-pay. Girls Tennis | May 21, 22 & 23 The girls tennis team wrapped up their regular season with a strong showing, finishing fourth overall in the City Tournament. Each of Covenant’s positions advanced to the semi-finals this past Saturday, but ultimately fell to Bishop Chatard and Cathedral in most matches. The team now turns its focus to defending its sectional title, beginning with a match against the host team, the Ben Davis Giants, on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Warriors previously defeated the Giants 5-0 during the regular season. The winner will advance to face Speedway—another team Covenant swept 5-0. On the opposite side of the bracket, Cardinal Ritter will take on Tri-West, both of whom Covenant also defeated 5-0. A win would mark the Warriors’ seventh consecutive sectional championship. Boys Track & Field | May 22 The boys will compete in Sectional #19 on Thursday at 5:45 p.m., featuring the same field of schools as the girls. One of Covenant’s top contenders is sophomore Tristan Witter, who recently won the 1600m title at the Indiana Crossroads Conference meet and finished as runner-up at last week’s City Alliance Championship. Witter ran a 10-second personal best of 4:37.79 at Conference, then shaved off another second with a 4:36.82 at City. Other performances to watch include senior Ty Smith in the 400m dash, where he holds a season-best time of 52.18. A young 4x800m relay team—Will Blomberg (So.), Alex Perez (Fr.), Robert Bailey (Fr.), and Witter—also brings excitement, entering the meet with a time of 8:39. Stay tuned for updates once official heat sheets are released. Tickets can be purchased for $7.00 at https://public.eventlink.com/tickets?t=129720 or at the gate.
