The Warrior baseball program will look to build on their back-to-back Sectional championships this season. Their main strength should be the return of most of the pitching staff. Lone Senior Nolan Guzman will lead the way on the bump and will provide solid defense as a corner infielder. Guzman had a breakout Junior season on the mound getting the win in the Sectional Championship game. He had a team best 2.41 ERA last season and will figure much more prominently into the staff this season. The offensive firepower will come primarily from Covenant’s Juniors this season. Henry Boyce is a two-year starter and will be a staple near the top of the Warriors’ lineup. Last season, Boyce batted .297 and provided a key bases clearing double in the Sectional Championship game. Defensively Boyce will be one of the top players finding himself consistently in the middle of the diamond, either behind the dish, at short, or in center field. Blake Cope returns for another season and will provide Covenant with plenty of firepower near the top of the order. Cope batted .379 last season with an OPS of over 1.000. He slugged an insurance two-run homer in last season’s Sectional Championship and will see plenty of extra bases with his next level power and speed. Defensively, Cope will play first base and center field. Gabe Unger put together a solid Sophomore campaign and will be a key contributor this season having added power to his offensive repertoire. He batted .339 last season and pitched over 30 innings for the Warriors. Eli Kegeris will look to make a big impact on the mound this season. Ty Thomas will likely get innings as a corner outfielder this season. Korey Howell could also be a contributor at the plate this year. The Warriors feature a strong Sophomore class as well. Bryce Eagen returns quite a bit of Varsity experience from last season both on the mound and in the field. Eagen will be a middle of the order bat and a staple in the outfield and on the mound. Weston Laughlin provided the Warriors with the second most innings pitched last season as a freshman and will be a big contributor on the mound again this season. He will look to build on his freshman campaign by being a regular contributor behind the dish and in the infield this season. Colin Ferkinhoff made big offseason strides and will be a staple in the middle infield this season. Carter Smith and Barrett Beyers could both see time as a corner infield and catcher respectively. The Warriors will be tested early, facing two strong 4A programs in Carmel and State Runner-Up Mooresville before opening the conference season with Scecina.
