Boys volleyball is officially an IHSAA sport! While the program has existed as a club for 18 seasons, the team is excited to kick off its inagural season as an officially sanctioned IHSAA team, as well as a member of the Indiana Crossroads Conference. The season also marks the inaugural City Tournament and presents the opportunity for players to be recognized as All-City student-athletes. The team has a loaded schedule, competing against a variety of schools. They will also be hosting what will eventually become a Conference Tournament as more schools field teams. But the biggest challenge this season will come in the state tournament, which begins with a nine-team sectional, including: Avon, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Center Grove, Decatur Central, Monrovia, Mooresville, and Plainfield. The team is supported by a group of senior leaders who will guide both the team's performance and spiritual growth. Each week, they will lead devotions and share their personal testimonies along with the team's Bible verse. The coaching staff is thrilled with the potential of their on-court performance. Senior Landyn Parker is back and healthy, and is expected to lead the offense as one of the varsity setters. Josiah Swearingen, who returned to volleyball this year, will fill the other setter role. He’s an intuitive player and will be a solid contributor to the team. Mark Crane (senior) and his cousin, Isaac Crane (junior) are back in their previous roles, and are expected to put up strong offensive numbers. Junior Micah Manning will take on a new role this year, moving from middle hitter to outside hitter. As a second-year varsity player, he is likely to lead the team in offensive categories. The defense will be anchored by seniors Noah Cooper and Joe Geimer, who are both solid passers with quick reaction times. Coach Erin Oppy is in her 7th season as the head coach. She was previously the coach in 2007-2010, and returned as the Warrior's head coach in 2023. Last year, the team went 13-12, but the team expects to compete well throughout the season. The JV will open up the season on Monday, March 24 vs. Traders Point, followed by the varsity match vs. International on Andrew Smith Court.
