The Athletic Department is excited to introduce Coach Luke Scifres as the next head football coach at Covenant Christian High School. Aligned with the school’s mission to provide an excellent, Christ-centered education for a life of scholarship, leadership, and service, Coach Scifres stood out during the interview process for his faith, ability to guide and develop young men, extensive football knowledge, attention to detail, and expertise in strength and conditioning. As an athlete, Luke played football at Roncalli. He went on to play football and throw javelin at Marian University, where he was a member of their football national title team in 2012 and national runners-up in 2014. Scifres has been coaching with Roncalli since 2015, assisting on their 2016 and 2020 4A State Championship teams. His expertise as a coach includes working with running backs, special teams, technology, and strength & conditioning. Beyond his football experience, Luke and his father, Bruce Scifres, have co-developed and authored, and partnered in Beyond the Goal Line Sports Ministry. Luke has a heart for Kingdom impact, and is committed to building a faith-first program that develops servant leaders that play for a Higher Purpose. Athletic Director, David Pfeifer, had this to say about Coach Scifres: “We are thrilled to name Luke as our next head coach. Luke knows what it takes to compete at an incredibly high level. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a player and coach. Beyond the game, Luke has a deep passion for developing the whole person and understands what is most important. We are excited for the Covenant football family to meet him and welcome him to our community. We believe there are exciting days and years ahead under the leadership of Coach Scifres.” While this will be his first head coaching position, Coach Scifres is ready for the challenge: "I am extremely excited about this opportunity to coach at Covenant Christian, with its faith-based mission, supportive administration, wonderful school community, and environment. My wife Emily and I have a 19-month-old daughter, and we are excited about joining the larger Covenant Christian family. I am ready to get to work!” The football team won the school’s first State Title in 2020. They have since moved up to class 2A this past season due to enrollment, and aim to build a strong foundation for success under Coach Scifres’ leadership.
