Girls Basketball Season Preview

The Covenant Warrior girls basketball program had a great offseason, and they are ready to put that on display. The season tipped off with a home win over the Park Tudor Panthers Wednesday night, 45-43! This is the Warriors first winning start to a season dating back to 2018. Head Coach Dan Nietz embarks on his 5th season in the role here at Covenant and is assisted by Cortney Foreman. Coach Foreman brings a lot of experience to the Warrior bench! Coach Stacy Nolan returns as well and has a great rapport with the girls. Returning to the Covenant staff is new JV coach, Charles McKemie, who is excited to lead and mentor the development of younger players. Last year's record of 8-17 doesn't quite reflect the very upward trajectory the 2023-24 campaign was on by the end. The Warriors took down University in the sectional semi-final after taking a beating from the Trailblazers in the regular season. "This year with many players returning, we are looking to build off a strong finish from the end of last season," Coach Nietz said. "I’m excited to see this group have a lot of success this year. We have a great group of girls, we have great leadership, they work hard and they enjoy being around each other." The roster is stacked with upperclassmen who have worked hard and poured a lot into a program that has not reached double-digit wins in a season during their careers to this point. Seniors Lilly Armstrong, Julia Hoffman, Maddy Howard, Avery Reichart, Milan Loy-Dawson, and Vivian Haffner are ready to see that change in their final seasons as Warriors. Look for big contributions as well from juniors Jenna Rademacher and Emi Flatt along with sophomore Moriah Armstrong. The Warriors are back in action this Saturday at North Putnam's Heritage Environmental Tip-Off Classic. They will take on the Cardinal Ritter Raiders in the morning and then get either North Putnam or Parke Heritage in the afternoon bill. They return to Andrew Smith Court next Tuesday, November 12 to face Indianapolis Shortridge with the JV game tipping at 6 p.m. Check out the full season schedule here: https://covenantathletics.org/Team/8ee1b607-1aea-455b-b54b-af7ebac6c0b1/Basketball%20(Girls%20V)
