Two New Head Coaches for the Fall

Girls soccer welcomes first-time varsity head coach, Seth Baker, who takes over after a one-year stint from Matt Larsen. We wish Matt all the best as he starts his new position as Director of Sports Performance at Biola University in La Mirada, CA. Seth grew up playing soccer and has experience coaching younger players, but this will be his first opportunity to head a high school program. Coach Baker loves the game of soccer, but his main motivation and passion is to show others the love of Jesus and encourage them toward their own personal relationship with him. "Having been a children's pastor for several years and currently serving kids and families as a mental health therapist, teaching and supporting youth is something I find a lot of joy and purpose in," Seth said. "I am so excited to coach the girls soccer team at Covenant and to help each individual on the team grow in their ability and love of the beautiful game, but so much more to help them grow in their knowledge and love of our beautiful Savior!" Coach Baker will hit the ground running with official IHSAA practices starting in just a matter of weeks. Please join us in welcoming Seth to the Covenant Christian Athletics family! Girls volleyball will also have a new coach this fall, but certainly not a new face to Covenant. Former assistant and head coach of both the girls and boys volleyball programs, Mick Oppy is stepping in as the 2024 season interim head coach. Mick and his wife, Erin, were influential in getting the boys program started several years ago even as they coached the girls. Mick led the Warrior girls volleyball program to its first ever sectional championship in 2010! Coach Oppy has also been heavily involved with club volleyball in Ohio and Indiana in addition to coaching collegiately at Cincinnati Christian University. The volleyball program is still looking for assistants to help round out the staff, and the athletic department has a number of coaching opportunities open for the upcoming school year. If you or someone you know is interested in these opportunities, please visit our jobs page at cchs.bamboohr.com/careers. Go Warriors!
