Girls Tennis Season Preview

The Covenant girls tennis team is poised for another run at a sectional championship and beyond. The Warriors have won their sectional every season dating back to 2018! They will have to do it without their standouts from a year ago, Dani Newport, Kate Hedrick, and Saige Coleman who all graduated. Coach Sean Bird maintains his optimism, however, knowing there are some juniors and sophomores who have been working in the off-season and other young talent who will be vying for varsity positions. "One of our first tasks is to use challenge matches to figure out who will be playing 1, 2, and 3 singles, and what will be the best combination for a new 2 doubles team," he commented. "I have high hopes for Emma Reichanadter and Zoe Norocea as a strong 1 doubles combination." Reichanadter and Norocea, who played 2 singles and 3 singles respectively last season, are part of a strong group of senior returners that also includes Chloe Schafer and DeVyne Wills. Last year, Schafer played both 1 singles and 1 doubles, and Wills pushed her career varsity record to 17-9 as part of the 2 doubles team. The ladies are looking forward to glorifying God as they enjoy improving their tennis skills. The team and Coach Bird have made Psalm 67:1-3 a focal point for their season: "May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you." (NIV) The Warriors will open up the season at home against Herron on Thursday, April 3 at 5 p.m. Check out the full season schedule at https://covenantathletics.org/Team/10498513-1662-4ad7-aab0-ae11070210df/Tennis%20(Girls%20V)
