The Lady Warrior tennis team has taken to the courts this spring after opening against Cardinal Ritter (5-0, W) and Cathedral (1-4, L) last week. As they continue into the season, the team is guided by a powerful vision of persistence and purpose. This year, the team has adopted Philippians 3:13b-14 as their season verse: "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." The roster is packed with veteran experience and exciting new dynamics, positioning the Lady Warriors for a competitive season. Emma Crane (junior) is entering her third year at #1 singles. She already boasts 21 career wins, and is on pace to set the school record for most career wins at the #1 position before the season concludes. Senior Abby Gibson had a dedicated off-season in the weight room, bringing newfound power to the #2 singles spot. She aims to build on her 19 varsity wins. Junior Rebecca Roth is known for her consistency, and steps into the #3 singles role as a reliable anchor for the lineup. In the doubles positions, sisters Emi Flatt (senior) and Izzy Flatt (sophomore) lead the charge at #1 doubles. With 21 and 17 varsity wins respectively, their challenge this year is balancing aggressive play with the grace and patience required of a sibling duo. They've started the season undefeated, earning an impressive win over Cathedral. Marlee Meunier, who holds 27 varsity career wins, is joined this year by her twin sister, Morgan Meunier, to form a formidable tandem at #2 doubles. This year marks Coach Bird’s 10th season at the helm of the Lady Warrior tennis program. Coach Bird was there at the very beginning in 2001—the inaugural year for Covenant girls' tennis—which ended with a 4-4 record. Today, the program stands on the threshold of a major milestone: the potential for the tenth sectional win in school history. The Lady Warriors recognize that their impact isn't limited to the tennis court. The team recently spent time volunteering at the Westside Village Nursing Center, an experience that shaped their perspectives. Reflecting on Mark 10:43-45, the team was reminded that Jesus came not to be served, but to serve. By connecting with residents—some over 100 years old—the girls gained a deeper appreciation for their own youth and agility, and walked away knonwing that their service was life giving to others. The team enters the season with a prayer for endurance, intending to enjoy God’s presence as they develop their skills in this "lifetime sport."
