As the IHSAA Girls Swimming Sectional Prelims approach on Thursday, February 5, the Warriors are proving they know how to peak at the right time. A look back at the season shows steady, linear improvement, with swimmers consistently shaving time off their personal bests as they head into the postseason. The freestyle sprint events have seen some of the most dramatic improvements. Natalie Monday has been on a tear in the 50 Free, dropping over four seconds since the City Championships, moving from a 36.68 to 32.50 at the Pike Quad. Olivia Ray has demonstrated strong consistency in both the 50 and 100 Free. Across five major meets, Ray has methodically lowered her 100 Free time from 1:20.07 to 1:14.48—a massive 5.5-second total improvement. Her 50 Free has followed a similar path, dropping from 33.04 to 31.52. The mid-distance events are also trending positively. Lillie Sefton has shown a steady climb in the 200 Free, dropping roughly seven seconds across three meets to reach a season-best 2:55.52. Tess Bruick achieved a significant milestone by breaking the three-minute barrier in the 200 Free, dropping over eight seconds from her early-season mark to hit 2:59.73. In the technical events, Gretchen Monday has maintained a steady downward trajectory in both the 200 IM (hitting 2:59.53) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:31.81), proving that focus on form is paying off. With every swimmer on the roster posting their fastest times of the season in the final weeks of the regular season, the Warriors are poised to make a splash at Sectionals. If these linear progressions continue, expect more personal records to fall—and a strong push for finals qualifications on Saturday.
