Boys Varsity Basketball · IHSAA Releases BBB State Tournament Draw


The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) released the draw for the 110th annual Boys Basketball State Tournament on Sunday afternoon via the webcast of the State Tournament Pairings Show on the IHSAA Champions Network (www.ihsaatv.org).  IHSAA Media Release for the 2019-20 Boys Basketball State Tournament.

Covenant Christian, seeking it’s first sectional title in Boys Basketball since 2011, will compete in Sectional #42 at Heritage Christian, one of the toughest Class 2A sectionals in the state.  Sectional #42 will include three teams in the top ten of the Sagarin ratings (CCHS, University HS, Park Tudor).  University is currently ranked #5 in this week’s 2A Associated Press poll.

Scecina Memorial HS (7-14) will face University HS (18-4) in Game #1 of the sectional on Tuesday, March 3 at 7:00pm.  CCHS (15-7) will face T.C. Howe (13-8) in the first round of the sectional at HCS on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:00pm.  Host Heritage Christian (6-13) will face Irvington Prep (8-12) in Wednesday’s second game.   The SMHS/UHS winner will advance to face Park Tudor (14-7) in the semifinals on Friday, March 6 at 6:00pm, with the Covenant/Howe winner taking on the HCS/IPA winner in the second semifinal.  The Sectional #42 final will take place on Saturday, March 7.

Covenant has defeated sectional members Scecina and Heritage this season, and lost to University HS 64-62 in overtime.  CCHS has not faced Irvington Prep, Howe, or Park Tudor in the 2019-20 season.

All-session passes for the sectional will be $10, with single-session passes $6.00.

The Sectional #42 champion will advance to Regional #11 hosted at Greenfield-Central HS on Saturday, March 14.  Regional #11 will include the Sectional #41 champion (hosted by Hagerstown HS), Sectional #42 champion (hosted by HCS), Sectional #43 champion (hosted by Southmont HS), and Sectional #44 champion (hosted by North Decatur HS).

The IHSAA Semi-State rounds will be played on Saturday, March 21, with the four state final games played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 28.
