The Boys Basketball team (10-6, 4-1) had a rough night on Friday, letting a 50-47 game slip through their fingers, as the Warriors fell to Providence Cristo Rey HS.

The shooting struggles started early for CCHS, as they had difficulty to get shots to fall in the first quarter against the Wolves’ zone defense.  That led to Covenant falling behind, trailing 16-7 after one quarter.  The Warriors settled in a bit more, executing better ball movement in the second quarter, allowing Covenant to trim to deficit to 26-20 at halftime.  The CCHS defense really limited the Wolves in the third, as they outscored PCR 13-7 to tie the game going into the final quarter.  Providence was able to outlast CCHS in the fourth, hitting enough foul shots and Covenant not able to finish shots late, leading to the loss.  Covenant had a couple of chances to tie or go ahead late in the game, but were unable to connect.

Senior Cam Shurig led CCHS with a game-high 15 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist.  Junior Trey Flatt chipped in 12 points, while Sophomore Brock Buckley and Senior Sam Fulbright each added 8.  Buckley led the Warriors with 6 rebounds.  The Wolves had a balanced scoring attack, led by Seniors Damian White and Jamil Chandler who each scored 11 points.

The Warriors will look for a weekend split, as they have back-to-back games, traveling to Shortridge HS on Saturday night at 6:00/7:30pm.
