The City Alliance released the draw for the 2020 Girls Basketball City Tournament today. The Tournament will start on Monday, January 13 with first round games. The second round will be played on Tuesday, January 14, with the semifinals on Thursday, January 16 and the finals on Friday, January 17. The semifinals and finals for both JV and Varsity will be played at Cathedral HS. The JV bracket will mirror the varsity bracket, except for the schools that are not fielding JV teams in this year’s tournament. The brackets are determined by using the Sagarin Ratings through Saturday, December 28. The Sagarin Ratings are algorithms that factor in wins and losses as well as strength of schedule to rank all of the teams in Indiana.
Covenant, which currently stands at 8-5 overall for the season, is slotted as the #5 seed. CCHS will host #12 seed Herron HS (2-9) in the first round at 6:00 pm. The winner of the CCHS/Herron game will advance to face the winner of #4 Cardinal Ritter HS (9-5)/#13 George Washington CHS (5-6) in the quarterfinals. Perennial City power, Heritage Christian (9-4), who has won the last 15 City titles, received the #1 seed. Cathedral HS (11-4) slides into the #2 seed. Bishop Chatard HS (7-6) received the #3 seed.
Indiana Sports Radio Network (SRN) will webcast the City Tournament semifinals and finals from Cathedral HS on January 16 and 17. Contact Keith Meyers of Indiana SRN if you are interested in sponsoring the webcasts.
