The Girls Volleyball team (6-18), the #6 seed in this year’s City Tournament bracket, fell to the #3 seeded Bishop Chatard HS Lady Trojans in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night, 3-1.
Chatard handled the first set with relative ease, winning it 25-12. CCHS rallied to play strong in the second and third sets, taking game two 25-17 and then getting nipped 26-28 in the third set. The Lady Trojans rallied to take the fourth set with a strong showing 14-25.
Sophomore Cadee Notter handed out 13 assists to go with 3 aces and 2 kills, while Freshman Dani Newport led CCHS with 8 kills to go with 3 aces and 3 digs. Senior Lexie Bright tallied 6 kills to go with 2 aces and 3 digs, while Seniors Sania Borom and Avery Fowler each chipped in 5 kills. Sophomores Bella Dart and Elizabeth Schafer recorded 8 digs and 7 assists respectively.
Covenant’s JV team also fell to Chatard in the quarterfinals of the JV City Tournament on Tuesday night, losing 21-25 and 19-25.
Bishop Chatard will advance to face #2 seed Cathedral HS in Wednesday’s semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, #1 Heritage Christian will face #4 seed Cardinal Ritter HS. Wednesday’s semifinals and Thursday’s finals will be webcast on Indiana SRN.
The Lady Warriors will now seek to catch their breath as the JV and varsity have closed out the regular season, and will turn their attention to the IHSAA State Volleyball Tournament which begins next week. CCHS drew a bye in the first round and will face T.C. Howe CHS in the Sectional #42 semifinals at Scecina Memorial HS on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 am.
