The Football team improved to 3-4 on the season with a strong performance at Shortridge HS Friday night, beating the Blue Devils 52-0 on their homecoming game. The Warriors dominated Shortridge in every area, out gaining SHS in total offense 251-8.
The Covenant defense had a big night, not giving up a first down all game, and turning the Blue Devils over three times. CCHS kept SHS to 0-for-12 on third down conversions and 0-for-4 on fourth down conversions. Junior Gage Coffey picked up his area-leading sixth interception of the season, while Junior Trey Flatt also picked off a pass that set up another Coffey touchdown deep in Shortridge territory late in the third quarter.
Junior quarterback Austin Frazier overcame an early interception to go 9-for-14 through the air for 149 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Tony Flatt came in to quarterback late, going 1-for-1 with a touchdown to fellow Freshman Brad Nardi. Nardi had a big night, rushing the ball three times for 26 yards with a touchdown on the ground to go with the late TD catch from Tony Flatt, his first two career scores. Nardi also had a strong night defensively, picking up five solo tackles with 3 assists, with two tackles for loss. Senior Elias Twyman also picked up his first career touchdown, rushing 1 yard to punch the ball in the endzone.
The Warriors will stay on the road next week, as they face the Panthers of Park Tudor Friday at 7:00 pm. The Panthers (2-5) lost to T.C. Howe CHS 20-7 on Friday night. The game will be broadcast LIVE on Indiana Sports Radio Network (SRN).
