The All-City and All-Conference Baseball teams were released recently, with Covenant well represented on both honor teams. Both teams are selected via coach nominations, and then voted on by the baseball coaches of both the City Alliance and the Circle City Conference. The All-City Team is selected by positions with a First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention, while the CCC All-Conference Team is determined as the top fifteen vote getters are All-Conference with the remaining players Honorable Mention.
For the All-City Team, Junior Brennan Moran and Sophomore Darien Pugh were selected to First Team as a Second Base and Outfield respectively. Moran has been the Warriors’ team leader in batting average for most of the season, currently hitting .400. He also has 26 hits on the season, a double, triple, 12 runs batted in, 15 runs, and leads the team with 11 stolen bases. Pugh has hit .365 with 23 hits, 3 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs, is second on the team with 18 RBI, and first with 21 runs scored. Both players have played multiple positions throughout the season, including pitcher. Sophomore Blane Bradford and Senior Cam Collins were both selected to the All-City Second Team as Third Base and First Base respectively. Bradford is hitting .315 on the year, with 6 RBI, 7 runs scored, and 19 walks. Collins has hit .250 with 3 doubles, a triple, 14 RBI, and 10 runs scored. Senior Jake Brackett (.388, 31 hits, 3 doubles, 19 RBI, 18 runs scored) and Freshman Brock Buckley (.333, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored. 3-2 on the mound, 3.316 ERA in 31.2 IP) were both selected as Honorable Mention. CCHS made the City Tournament final for the first time in program history, upsetting the #1 seed Bishop Chatard HS 4-2 in the semifinals before losing to City Champion Cathedral HS 2-0 in the final. 2019 All-City Team.
Pugh was the lone representative for CCHS on the All-Conference Team. Brackett, Buckley, Moran, Collins, and Bradford were all selected as CCC Honorable Mention. The CCC Team is highlighted by Roncalli HS Senior catcher Brian Keeney, who led the conference in batting, hitting .541 with 11 doubles, 4 triples, 21 stolen bases, and 17 RBI. Brebeuf Jesuit Sophomore outfielder Gabe Wright, hit .394 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 16 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. Bishop Chatard HS Junior Patrick Mastrian hit .373 with 5 doubles, 8 triples, 1 home run, 7 stolen bases and 24 RBI. The Conference’s top pitchers include Roncalli Senior Will Schoettle (5-0, 39 IP, .897 ERA), RHS Senior Eric Hommel (40.1 IP, 6-1, 2.08 ERA), Brebeuf Jesuit Freshman Andrew Dutkanych (6-2, 57 IP, 1.596 ERA), Guerin Catholic HS Senior Matt Parenteau (6-1, 57.1 IP, 2.05 ERA), and Guerin Catholic Senior Max Engelking (37 IP, 5-2, 1.70 ERA). 2019 Circle City Conference All-Conference Team.
