The Boys Basketball team (8-10) had a game slip away from them in the second half on Friday night, as the University HS Trailblazers (16-3) defeated Covenant 65-45. The Warriors trailed just 30-28 at halftime against the Class 1A #5 ranked Trailblazers, but the size and execution of UHS took it’s toll in the second half.
The Trailblazers utilized dribble penetration as well as effective use of the screen and roll to open up some strong scoring opportunities, going on a 20-8 third quarter run, including a 7-0 start to the quarter, to help blow the game open.
Junior Cam Shurig and Sophomore Trey Flatt led the scoring for CCHS, netting 12 and 11 points respectively. The Trailblazers had a very balanced scoring attack, with five players scoring nine or more points, led by Sophomore Camden Brown who scored 15. Eight of Brown’s 15 points came in the third quarter run.
The Warriors will be on the road twice this week, as they face Central Christian Academy on Tuesday night (6/7:30 pm) and then City rival Cardinal Ritter HS on Friday night (6/7:30 pm). The varsity game of the Central Christian doubleheader will be broadcast on Indiana SRN.
