The Girls Basketball team (18-9) ended their season on Saturday, falling to Western Boone HS (17-7) 66-51 in the IHSAA Regional #11 semifinal at Speedway HS. The win advanced WeBo to Saturday night’s final, where they lost to Winchester CHS (25-3) 65-41. WCHS, the Class 2A #4 ranked team, defeated #2 ranked Triton Central HS (22-2) 52-51 in the other Regional #11 semifinal on Saturday. The regional title is the second in a row for Winchester, who was the state runners-up in Class 2A last season.
CCHS struggled to contain one of the top scorers in the state in WeBo’s Senior Madison Jones, who scored a game-high 27 points. WeBo Junior Kara Brewer added 11 points, as the duo combined for six 3-pointers. Covenant was led on the scoreboard by Junior Ilani Williams-Harris, who scored 15 points. Sophomore Bonnie Ludlow and Junior Sania Borom each chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively in the loss.
Winchester will now advance to face Evansville Mater Dei HS (17-10) in the South Semi-State at Jeffersonville on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Mater Dei avenged a loss from earlier in the season, defeating #10 Eastern (Pekin) HS 37-32 in their regional final. In the North Semi-State, #1 ranked and defending 2A state champion Central Noble HS (27-0) will take on #3 Oak Hill HS (23-3) at Logansport HS at 4:00 pm. 2019 IHSAA Class 2A Girls Basketball State Tournament bracket.
