The Boys Basketball team (8-9) dropped a very back-and-forth game to Tri-West HS last night, falling 72-68 in overtime.
The Bruins got off to a strong start, leading 20-10 after the first quarter of action. Covenant was able to ramp up the defensive intensity in the next two quarters, holding Tri-West to just 14 points during that span, to tie the game at 29-29 at halftime, and building a 51-35 lead early in the fourth. But the Bruins rallied a strong comeback in the final minutes. Both teams missed opportunities on the foul line to seal the game in regulation, but the game went to overtime tied at 57. Tri-West got out to an early lead in the extra session, and then salted the win away with several key free throws in the game’s final minutes.
Sophomore Trey Flatt led CCHS with 20 points, while TWHS Senior Brayden VanSlyke scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Bruins.
Covenant returns home to Andrew Smith Court on Friday night, as they host the Trailblazers of University HS in a F/JV/V tripleheader at 4:30/6:00/7:30pm. The Warriors Athletic Booster Club will hold their annual Dessert Auction that night, with a silent auction during the JV game and first half of the varsity contest.
