The Boys Basketball team (5-4) dug themselves a hole at Circle City Conference foe Bishop Chatard HS (8-2) last night, and despite a spirited rally late, were just not able to completely pull themselves out, falling to the Trojans 61-58.  The loss drops the Warriors to 1-2 in CCC play in this their inaugural season in conference.

The Trojans took advantage of several sloppy defensive possessions by the Warriors early, taking a 5-0 lead early and leading throughout most of the contest, leading 36-25 at halftime.  BCHS grew their lead to a dozen in the third quarter, before Covenant made a run to trim it to six.  The lead again ballooned up to the largest of the game, 14 points, in the middle of the fourth quarter before CCHS made a furious rally to even take the lead 58-57 with 1:08 remaining.  The Trojans picked up Junior Noah Hedrick’s fifth foul, converting two foul shots to again take the lead.  CCHS could not score in it’s next possession, leading them to put Chatard’s leading scorer, Junior Edreece Redmond, on the line where he hit two more.  The Warriors were not able to get a clean look at the basket as time expired on another tough loss for Covenant.  CCHS outscored the Chatard 22-12 in the final quarter.

Junior Cam Shurig led CCHS with 14 points, while Sophomore Trey Flatt and Freshman Brock Buckley chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively in the loss.  Redmond led BCHS with a game-high 24 points.

CCHS will look to turn their two-game losing streak around at Heritage Christian on Saturday night, as the Warriors face the Eagles in a CCC tripleheader at 4:30/6:00/7:30 pm.  The varsity game will be webcast on Indiana SRN, beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm.
