The Boys Basketball team (3-0, 1-0) picked up their most lopsided win of the year on Wednesday night, pressing, trapping, and running past the Cougars of North Putnam HS on their way to a 96-45 win.
The Warriors ran waves of players and different forms of traps and presses at the Cougars, leading to 30 NPHS turnovers. CCHS jumped out to an early lead, starting off the game on a 12-0 run. The Cougars settled in and seemed to stem the tide a bit, staying within striking distance for much of the first half. Covenant pulled away late in the second quarter for a 47-30 at halftime. But the Warriors jumped out to on a 20-4 run in the first four minutes of the second half to put the game way. CCHS had eleven players score on the night.
Sophomore Trey Flatt led the Warriors in a balanced team win, scoring a game-high 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Sophomore Ben Bradley led CCHS with 6 assists. Covenant had five scorers in double figures, including Junior Cam Shurig (18), Freshman Brock Buckley (14), Junior Sam Fulbright (12), and Junior Ethan Maudlin (10), while Junior Noah Hedrick notched nine. The Warriors tallied 37 field goals as a team, to go along with 24 assists and 18 steals.
Covenant will be back on the home hardwood on Saturday night to host City rival Scecina Memorial HS (0-3). The JV game will tip at 6:00 pm, followed by the varsity game at approximately 7:30 pm.
