The Football season (9-1) came to a disappointing end on Saturday night at Avon HS, as the Warriors lost to Traders Point Christian HS (9-1) 14-7 in the first round matchup of the IHSAA Class 1A Sectional #45.
The Knights controlled the game throughout the first half, as the Warriors were unable to get their running game going, as TPCHS limited Covenant’s Senior running back Jonah Bronger to just 13 yards on 14 carries. But the CCHS defense kept the Warriors in the game. Traders Point was able to score the game’s first touchdown late in the first half, as Junior quarterback David Hart ran in four yards for the score.
The Knights struck again in the third quarter, as Hart hit Junior Kye Johnson on a 30 yard touchdown strike on 4th and 21 from the Warriors’ 30 yard line for the 14-0 lead.
Covenant got on the board with 5:26 left in the game, as Covenant quarterback Austin Frazier hit Sophomore Trey Flatt on a short slant route that Flatt turned into a 56 yard touchdown. The Covenant defense made two more stops to get the ball back, but CCHS could not find it’s way to the end zone a second time to tie the game.
Frazier went 10-for-24 for 122 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions. Bronger also caught four passes for 30 yards, while Flatt caught three passes for 69 yards. TPCHS held the Warriors to just 23 yards on the ground.
Hart went 8-for-15 for 127 yards and a touchdown, while rushing 22 times for 45 yards. Covenant held the Knights to 77 yards on the ground.
Traders Point will advance to host C.A. Tindley AS (3-6) in the Sectional #45 semifinal on Friday night.
