The Football team (9-0) overcame a slow start and cool, damp weather conditions on their way to celebrate Senior Night with a 42-8 win over Bowman Academy on Friday night.  The win completes a perfect 9-0 regular season for the Warriors, their second such regular season in the last three seasons.  The program was also able to recognize its six graduating senior players and two managers and their families before the game.

The Eagles came out strong early, as they were using the ground game to move the ball effectively against CCHS in their first possession.  But the Warriors forced a fumble to stall their drive.  Bowman got the ball back after Covenant could not sustain their first drive, but CCHS got it right back as a blitz on TBLA quarterback George Johnson allowed Senior Chile Mulamba pick up the ball and run in his first career touchdown 21 yards for the early 7-0 lead.  The Warriors defense seemed to take control of the game at that point, forcing punts or turnover on downs on the next four of five Eagle possessions.

Senior Jonah Bronger also got the Warrior offense going, rushing 22 times for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Bronger’s three scores staked CCHS to a commanding 28-0 lead before the Eagles were able to find the endzone, as Junior Seveion Nelson caught a 25-yard Johnson pass for Bowman’s lone score of the night.  Sophomore Gage Coffey, who rushed ten times for 59 yards and punched the ball in two more times for the Warriors, as CCHS ran the ball for 214 yards on the night.  Sophomore quarterbacks Austin Frazier and Ben Bradley split time under center, as Frazier went 4-for-6 for 20 yards and Bradley went 3-for-3 for 49 yards.

The Warriors will take their unblemished record for 2018 into the postseason and will host rival Traders Point Christian HS (8-1) on Friday, October 19 at a site to be determined.  Covenant handed the Knights their lone loss of the season in week 8, with a 21-7 win at TPC on October 5.  The game is scheduled to be broadcast both on Indiana SRN, as well as video streamed by the IHSAA on their Champions Network.  Please stay tuned to the athletic twitter account (@athletics4CCHS) for emerging details about next week’s first round sectional matchup.
