The Girls and Boys Cross Country teams competed on a wet track on a beautifully sunny day in the Ben Davis Sectional of the 2018 Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Tournament on Saturday. In the sectional level, the top five teams and ten individuals not on advancing teams, advance to the regional level. CCHS had three individuals advance to next week’s regionals at BDHS.
The Covenant Girls team placed sixth overall. Senior Ashlyn Hastings ran a team-best 20.45.4 to place eighth place overall as an individual. Her finish was the top individual not on an advancing team. Hastings was also selected to the All-Sectional Team. Junior Harland Lory, running a 22.40.7 for 20th place, ran well enough to advance out of the sectional as well. Sophomores Krysten Dalton, Maci Johnson, and Freshman Laini Gunn finished 43rd, 46th, and 47th overall to close out the team’s scoring (159). Zionsville CHS place five runners in the top seven positions to win the sectional. ZCHS (23) was followed by Cardinal Ritter HS (59), Southport HS (105), Ben Davis HS (120), and Perry Meridian HS (121) as the top five teams that are advancing to the regional. In the Boys race, Freshman Clayton Reichanadter led CCHS with a 18:59.7, to place 27th overall. The Warriors placed ninth overall, as Juniors Timothy Skaggs, Patrick Shaughnessy, Nate Sloan, and Senior Zach Eaton scored for CCHS, in 42nd, 46th, 55th, and 59th places. Zionsville also won the Boys Sectional. ZCHS (37) was followed in the placing by host Ben Davis HS (42), Cardinal Ritter HS (90), Southport HS (98), and Perry Meridian HS (150). Hastings, Lory, and Reichanadter will compete in Regional #9 at Ben Davis HS on Saturday, October 13 at 10:00 am.
