The Boys Soccer team (9-8) got on the board early again last night, scoring just 49 seconds into the game, on their way to a 4-2 defeat of Covington HS (9-4-2).
The Warriors came out pressing high and hard, resulting in a goal for Senior Gabe Byrd, as he struck a shot from outside the 18 into the top left corner. Senior Ethan Hurt picked up the assist on that first goal. Covington struck back quickly to equalize, at the thirty minute mark, after Covenant turned the ball over in the defensive third. CHS collected the ball and countered the misplaced pass and put it in over Senior goalkeeper Jacob Susud.
CCHS maintained the majority of the possession throughout the game, and scored next, as Byrd threw a throw in to the far post, where Senior Braden Havics chested the ball in. Havics picked up Covenant’s third goal before halftime on a penalty kick off a Trojan handball. Sophomore Arthur Hinton set up the final Warrior goal in the second half, as he crossed the ball to Senior Maclain Hastings who put it away. Covenant conceded an own goal late in the second half to make the final score 4-2.
The Warriors outshot the Trojans 20-6, with nine shots on frame to CHS’ three. Susud made two saves to pick up the win in between the posts.
The win advances Covenant to face the host Patriots of Bethesda Christian. BCS defeated North Putnam HS 2-0 in the last night’s other Sectional #41 semifinal. The final is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 pm on Saturday night at Bethesda. The Sectional #41 winner will advance to face the winner of Sectional #43 in the regional final. Central Christian Academy will face Christel House Watanabe in that sectional final. Regional #11 will also include the sectional champions from Sectional #42 at Knightstown and Sectional #44 at Southwestern (Shelbyville). Regional #11 will be hosted at Knightstown HS on Saturday, October 13.
