Both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams closed out their regular season schedules on Saturday, with the Boys team (7-8) defeating Avon HS 2-0 on the Warriors’ Senior Day, and the Girls team (6-7-2) tying Lebanon HS 1-1.

The Boys team controlled much of the game, and picked up a penalty kick from an Avon hand ball in the box early in the second half.  Senior Gabe Byrd buried the PK to give Covenant the lead.  Senior Braden Havics picked up his third goal of the season in the final ten minutes, when he deflected a header from Senior Maclain Hastings past the Orioles’ goalkeeper.  The Warriors’ defense limited AHS’ scoring opportunities all game, limiting the Orioles to just five shots, two on frame, which were both saved by Senior goalkeeper Jacob Susud.

The Lady Warriors also possessed the ball well, but could not consistently take advantage.  LHS opened the scoring 28 minutes into the first half, but Junior Alex David tied the score with 29 minutes remaining to play when she scored off a corner kick from Junior Lizzy Midla.

The Boys team opens up their defense of their Sectional #41 title on Monday night, as they face Cascade HS (7-5-2) in the first round of the IHSAA State Soccer Tournament.  Sectional #41 will be hosted by Bethesda Christian, with Monday’s game scheduled to kick off at 6:00 pm.

The Girls team will face host Cardinal Ritter HS (8-3) on Thursday at 7:00 pm.  Covenant and CRHS have split their two meetings earlier this season, with Ritter defeating Covenant at CCHS 2-1 in the end of August, and the Lady Warriors knocking Ritter out of the City Tournament with a 2-0 second round outcome.  Covenant defeated Ritter 2-1 in last year’s Sectional #44 final.
