The Boys Tennis team battled to get by Speedway HS in the IHSAA Sectional #2 semifinals on Thursday afternoon, but came away with a 4-1 win. The win advances the Warriors to the sectional finals against Cardinal Ritter HS on Saturday at 10 am at Ben Davis HS.
Senior Connor Craig picked up CCHS’ lone loss, falling 1-6, 3-6 at #1 Singles. Junior Luke Susud battled back after dropping the first set 2-6, to win the second and third sets 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Lance Wells cruised to a win at #3 Singles (6-1, 6-2), as did Seniors Nic Hood and Ian Zweifel at #2 Doubles (6-2, 6-3). Senior Jake Brackett and Sophomore Matthew Wilson won a nailbiter at #1 Doubles, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Wilson played as an alternated for Sophomore Graham Shelton who missed the semifinal due to a family funeral.
The winner of the CRHS/CCHS Sectional #2 final will advance to face the winner of Sectional #1 hosted by Avon HS in the Regional semifinal on Tuesday at Avon HS. Check out the IHSAA Boys Tennis State Tournament page.
