Senior Connor Craig lost in the City Tennis Finals at #1 Singles yesterday to Cathedral’s Abe Wojtalik in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. This was the first year since 2016 that a Covenant Boys Tennis player advanced to the City final (Drew Shriner, #3 singles). Craig advancing to the finals helped Covenant take third place in the City this year, the team’s best since 2015.
Wet weather forced the action indoors, as all five flights were able to conclude at the Community Health Plex on Guion Road.
Along with A. Wojtalik’s win at #1 Singles, Cathedral won the City title at #2 Singles, #3 Singles, and #1 Doubles. Bishop Chatard’s Elias McQueary and Jack Calvert won the #2 Doubles flight, the first City title for Chatard in any doubles flight in Boys Tennis since 2002. Cathedral also won the team City title, their fourteenth straight and 33rd out of the last 38 years.
Final team point standings: Cathedral 46, Bishop Chatard 31, Covenant Christian 18, Heritage Christian 15, Cardinal Ritter 5, Scecina Memorial 5, Shortridge 5, Crispus Attucks 2, Arsenal Tech 2.
