Senior golfer Faith Egenolf competed in the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Girls Golf Regional #4 at Smock Golf Course yesterday, shooting a 78 for the day, just five strokes off the regional’s top score.  Egenolf’s score was tied for the fourth best individual score of someone that is not advancing on a team, which means that she will compete in the State Finals this weekend at Prairie View GC in Carmel.

Egenolf started the day very well, teeing off at 9:30 am.  After parring the first two holes, Egenolf tapped in a bogey put on hole 3 to move to one over.  She parred the next three holes before another bogey on the par-3 seventh hole.  She then parred holes 8 and 9 to finish the front nine at +2.  A birdie to start the back nine on #10 got her to +1, but a poor chip from the backside of the green on hole 11, led to a bogey tap in.  Egenolf had her biggest struggles of the day on holes 13 through 16, as she bogeyed the par-3 13th, double-bogeyed the 14th, and then three-putted for another bogey on #16.  She then parred 17 and birdied the 18th hole to finish at +6, 78.

Egenolf will be the second CCHS Girls Golfer to compete in the State Final, and the second consecutive year that a Lady Warrior has advanced out of the regional.  Peyton Broce (CCHS Class of 2018) was the first Covenant golfer to compete in the State Final last year.

Carmel HS shot a 314 to win the regional.  CHS edged out Zionsville CHS, which shot a 317 to take second.  Circle City Conference member Guerin Catholic HS shot a 327 to barely squeak by Franklin Community (328), Center Grove (329), and Westfield (331) to advance as a team.  The top three teams in each regional advance to the State Final, as well as the top five individuals not on advancing teams.  Westfield’s Jocelyn Bruch shot a 73 to medal for the regional.  She, as well as Center Grove’s Lucy Young (76), University HS’s Becky Williams (77), Franklin Community’s Taylor Drake (78) will all join Egenolf as qualifying individuals.  Click here for the 2018 IHSAA Regional #4 Official Results.

The State Finals will be a two-day, 36 hole event.  The first round will tee off at 8:30 am on Friday, September 28, with the second round taking place on Saturday, September 29.  Egenolf is scheduled to tee off from the 10th tee on Friday morning at 10:27 am.  Click here for a complete list of Friday’s tee times.
