The Warriors Football team (6-0) posted a tough, hard-fought win, 12-10, over Heritage Christian on HCS’ Homecoming.
The Eagles hit a 47-yard field goal in the first half to lead just 3-0 at halftime after a back-and-forth first half. CCHS Senior Jonah Bronger broke a big play with 1:33 left in the third quarter, as he took a 3 and 8 pitch to the left side and found the corner and broke it for a 78 yard run to take a 6-3 lead. HCS rallied to take a 10-6 lead on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Junior quarterback Sam Azbell to Colton Brown on a wheel route to the right side.
The Warriors had a rally of their own though, as they put together a 10-play, 71 yard drive that was capped off by a 4 yard touchdown pass from Sophomore quarterback Austin Frazier to Sophomore Trey Flatt in the flat. It capped a strong performance for Frazier, as he went 12-for-17 for 150 yards and a touchdown. Bronger also had another solid night, running the ball 25 times for 136 yards and a touchdown. Bronger also sealed the game with a big sack on 4th and 11, ending the Eagles final drive. Sophomore wide receiver Gabe Wilson had a career night, catching five passes for 92 yards. The Covenant defense continued to make a strong statement for the season, only allowing the Eagles 156 total yards of offense.
The win is a big statement game for the Warriors, as HCS blew out Covenant last year 55-0. CCHS will host Shortridge HS (1-5) next Friday night at Zionsville West MS at 7:00pm on the Warriors’ Homecoming Night. Catch all of the action LIVE on Indiana SRN, starting with the pregame show, Football Friday Night, at 6:00 pm.
