The Football team (2-0) traveled south last night to face Oldenburg Academy (1-1) at Mt. St. Joseph’s University in Ohio, and came away with a lopsided 55-6 win over the Twisters. CCHS dominated the game on both sides of the ball, racking up 501 yards of total offense (324 rushing, 177 passing), while only giving up 142 yards defensively.
Senior Jonah Bronger carried the ball 17 times for 160 yards rushing with a touchdown, while also catching two passes for 31 yards, including a 29 yard touchdown reception. Bronger set the pace, while several other Warriors stepped up and contributed. Sophomore tight end Trey Flatt had two receptions for 78 yards to lead the receivers, while Sophomore Gage Coffey rushed for 58 yards on three carries and two touchdowns.
Sophomore quarterback Austin Frazier went 9-for-14 for 164 yards through the air, throwing three touchdown passes. Frazier hit Bronger for his 29 yard TD, and then also had a four yard touchdown pass to Senior D.J. Boggs and a 5 yard touchdown pass to Freshman Trey Replogle. Sophomore quarterback Ben Bradley was 1-for-1 passing for 13 yards, with a 20 yard run.
Senior Austin Anderson punched in a first quarter touchdown run of 3 yards towards the end of the first quarter to put the Warriors up 20-0, while Freshman R.L. Whikehart found the end zone for Covenant’s final score on a 3 yard run.
The defense limited the Twisters to just 58 yards in the first three quarters. OA Senior quarterback Eli Sporleder was 5-for-11 for 41 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Dominic McFee ran twice for 41 yards including a 40 yard run to kickstart Oldenburg’s lone scoring drive, while Junior Tony Kline rushed 9 times for 30 yards.
The Warriors will be back at home next Friday, August 31 at 7:00 pm to face Crispus Attucks (1-1). Shawn Crull and Curt Brough will bring you all of the action LIVE from Zionsville West MS.
