The Warrior boys golf team has been anxiously awaiting the start of the 2024 season, but the weather has interfered quite a bit in the first week. They should be able to finally get on the course in Saturday's Cardinal Ritter Invitational. It will be a short turnaround with the Circle City Conference championship being played on Monday, April 15 at Covenant's home course, Eagle Creek Golf Club. Junior Joe Midla is the only returning varsity player from the 2023 season. He is joined by the team's only senior, who played a season his freshman year, Paxton Bacon. The team will also rely on contributions from some good freshmen prospects, Connor Clark and Mason Ellis. Head coach Danny Smith has yet to determine who will round out the 4th and 5th spot on the varsity roster. Josiah Swearingen, Henry Murray, and Wyatt Lampen will all compete for the remaining varsity spots. Early season practices have also seen positive improvements from sophomore JV players Caleb Farris, Luke Mourer, and James Gray. "This group has the chemistry to be a surprise in some matches," said Coach Smith. "Mental toughness will be a consistent theme as inexperience will be the teacher this year and motivate guys to improve. I think this season presents one of the best opportunities for everyone to see significant improvements by the end of the season."
